Mary "Polly" George, born February 4, 1813, in Highland co., Ohio. Married August 28, 1831 Seth Smith, b. March 12, 1812, Ohio, son of, William & Margaret Smith, both b. in North Carolina. They were "Quakers", Society of Friends. Seth's family migrated to Highland co., Ohio and later to Clinton co., Ohio, from North Carolina, ca 1800.

After 1838, Seth & Mary "Polly" moved with their family west to Knox co., Illinois, and on to Adams Co., Iowa in later years. In the 1880 census, Seth Smith is farming in Grant Twp., Adams Co., Iowa, next to Jacob Ouderkirk and Martin Ouderkirk. Grant Twp. of Adams is just north of Lenox, Iowa Taylor Co., Iowa, and Lenox was their Post Office as well as their main town for trade. - Seth died July 25, 1887, at age 75 years, 4 months & 13 days. Mary died September 24, 1891, at the age of 78 years, 7 months & 20 days. Both Mary & Seth are buried in Taylor Co., Lenox, Iowa, Fairview cemetery (Plots 3.35 & 3.36).
