Jacob B. George, born September 19, 1809, Hillsborough, Highland co., Ohio. Lived at Lynchburg, Ohio where he was a school teacher, before removing to Peoria co., Illinois, in 1839. Jacob m. 1st., June 14, 1838, Miss Emaline W. Penington, the daughter of Thomas & Sarah Penington. Emaline was b. October 22, 1811 in Ohio and she d. June 14th, 1840, Peoria co., Illinois, at age 28 years, 7 mo. and 23 days. Jacob m. 2nd., September 8, 1842, in Peoria co., Illinois, Rebecca Smith, b. September 22, 1823, Clinton or Highland co., Ohio, daughter of, William & Sarah (Bevans) Smith.
In the 1850 census Jacob was living in Elba Twp., Knox co., Illinois. Jacob & Rebecca migrated to Jasper co., Iowa, ca 1855, settling near Prairie City & Vandilia. In a later year they moved to Adams co., (Grant Twp., Sec 28 SW corner) near the village of Lenox. Jacob George d., April 14, 1874, aged 64 years, 6 mo. & 21 days. Rebecca George d., February 19, 1884, aged 60 years, 4 mo. & 27 days {from family Bible records). Place of burial, assumed to be in the "Old" Prairie City cemetery, Jasper County, Iowa.
In the old Prairie City cemetery there are unmarked graves next to Dexter George, Jacob's son. It looks to be space for three graves. These graves are thought to be for Jacob, Rebecca his wife & their son Elkemah. One of these graves is marked with a red brick, common to the area; no other markings.

Rhoda Smith; Rhoda age 19 (b. 1831) is found in the Census of 1850, Elba Twp., Knox co., Illinois
She is listed as living with either Jacob George's family, or Tabitha (Beals) George. The later is shown living with Elizabeth & John West.
