Ellis B. George, was during slavery times widely known as an advocate of anti-slavery, in Elba Twp., [Knox co.] Illinois. Many runaway slaves found in him a staunch and true friend. Although he reached the remarkable age of almost eighty two years, he never in his life drank a single drop of intoxicants or used an ounce of tobacco. He lived and died a spiritualist. Some time around 1850, he developed a phase of medium-ship and at once left the Campbellite Church; and became a healer of diseases. He practiced healing until his age forbade, since which time he lived a retired life. Ellis B. George, died December 25, 1899 at Garrison, Butler Co., Nebraska, while visiting his son. He was one of Lincoln's early settlers coming to this city in September, 1873. He leaves a wife aged seventy seven years. He was survived by six sons and two daughters. (four had gone before) One son who lived at David City, Nebraska, one son at Garrison, one in Idaho, and H. E. George, well known in Lincoln, now in Nevada. J.W. George of Cheyenne, and Dr. P. S.
