My great great grandfather and his wife, William Bennett Logsdon(born Knox County Ohio) and Roselyn Baker Logsdon(born Iowa)had the following children: Dora A born April 27,1871; Cora born October 29,1872; my great grandfather William Samuel Bennett born June 2, 1875 in Mt Pleasant, Iowa; Edgar S born Nov 14, 1876; Guss D born Aug 21,1878; Sarah E born May 26,1881; George L born Sept 21, 1884; Tom born March 9, 1887; Beatrice May born July 25,1890 in Beatrice, Nebraska; Gird Z born June 18,1893 in Chino, CA; and Jenning Bryon born June 28, 1896 in Santa Anna, CA.

William Samuel Bennett Logsdon married Ruby Ann Pulver in 1901 in Beatrice, Nebraska. He died inLakeport, CA Nov 25,1930. They had my grandmother Lucille Ellen April 16,1902 in Corbett, OR; Bird Pulver born April 25,1903 in Corbett, OR; Thelma Mae born April 21,1904 in Spokane, WA; Fay Vivian born June 14,1907 in Beatrice, NB; Dean Mortimer Aug 1,1908 in Thedford, NB;Gerald D born Aug 18,1913 in Dunning, NB, William Wayne Sept 1,1915 in Dunning; and Alice Beryl March 2, 1918 in Thedford.

My grandfather, William Bennet Logsdon, was born in Knox County, Ohio, March 9, 1848, the son of William Logsdon, born June 28, 1808 in Wheeling Va. (W.Va). William returned to Va. and was in Wood County in the 1860 Census. His eldest son, Obediah, who was in Knox county with his father as an 18 year old in the 1850 Census, was in Wood County, Va. as head of a family in 1860.

I believe that Wm. is the son of Bennet Logsdon listed as the only Logsdon head of household in Ohio County, Va. in 1810 and 1820, and listed with Wm. and Joseph as heads of families in 1830. Does anyone have any further info. about Bennet during this time? Also, it is said that he is the same Bennet listed in Allegany County, MD. in 1800. Harry C. Logsdon"s "A Historical Sketch & Genealogical Record of the Endless Line of the Logsdon & Kelly Families," Library of Congress #cs71.L823, says that William of Lawrence Logsdon and the widow Catherine Durbin Ogg had a son Bennett, a son Joseph, and a daughter Catherine.(see messages re: Lawrence, #84, 109, 471, 607, 678). I believe that Harry was a decendent of William of Lawrence and his first wife. Does anyone have any backup info. other than Harry's book about this. I especially would like some proof that this Bennet is the one that came to Va. and is in the 1810, 1820, 1830 census.

I have some Civil War records regarding this same family:William Logsdon,(above) at age 54, commissioned Captain of Independent Scouts in Wood County, Belleville, West Virginia. His eldest son, Obediah, was mustered as a private in Co.A, commanded by Captain Samuel Davis in the 9th Regt.Virginia Volunteers (W.V.) commanded by Col. Duval on 28 Nov. 1861. During a part of his service he was a prisoner of war. Later he "was wounded on the 24th day of July 1864 at the Battle of Winchester and died by reason of said wounds on the lst. day of September 1864 while in the line of duty in the service of the United States." From his widow's pension application: Obediah M. Logsdon was married to Mary E. Manuel in Belmont County, Ohio on the 17th day of August, 1854 by A.A. Roger, a Methodist Minister. Children: Amanda Jane Logsdon born 23 March 1856 in Marshall County, (W)Va., Mary Catharine Logsdon was born on the 20th day of June 1858 in Wood County, (W)Va., James Morris Logsdon was born on the 6th day of March 1860 in Wood County, (W)Va. Mary E. Logsdon, Obediah's widow, moved in 1865 to Freetown, Jackson County, Indiana.

Obituary of Abraham Prosser found in The Knoxville Journal - September 11, 1897

On Wednesday, September 1, 1897, after a long and painful illness, Abraham Prosser passed peacefully out of this life into the great beyond, leaving the evidence that all was well.  He was ready and anxious to go.

He was about 75 years of age, had resided here many years, was a member of the M. E. Church and proprietor of the Cottage Home.  His loyalty to the church, his unselfishness in looking after the comforts of others and in providing for his own household, will not be forgotten by his friends and family.  He leaves a wife and seven children -- Mrs. Sutton [Soetens]; Mrs. Bramias[Brandfas]; Mrs. Sabin; and Miss Cora, being at his bedside when the summons came.  Mrs. Elliot, Charles and John were absent.

Services were conducted by Rev. W. Williams of Carlisle, assisted by Rev. John Harned and Rev. Flesher.  The floral offerings were many and beautiful.  He was followed to his resting place in Pleasant Ridge cemetery by a large number of friends who sympathize with the family.  The bereaved wife and children wish to express their gratitude for the kindness shown them by the neighbors during the sickness and death of husband and father.

Abraham Prosser, b. June 17, 1822, d. September 1, 1897, is buried at Pleasant Ridge cemetery 13-3.  Margaret Prosser wife of Abraham, b. October 3, 1823 & d. } William Troth m. Eliza Ruse, in Highland co., Ohio - ca 1815

William Troth resides on the North Wyaconda River, in Sec. 3, Twsp 66N, Range 11W, and is one of the oldest inhabitants of Scotland county.  He was born in Highland county, Ohio, October 20, 1814.  He is the second of ten children born to William, Sr. and Elizabeth (Grady) Troth, the former a native of New Jersey and the latter of North Carolina.  They came to Ohio in childhood, with their parents, and spent their lives on a farm.  The family originated from two brothers, who came to America with William Penn.  The grandfather, William, was born near Philadelphia, and at one time was a banker in that city.  During the Revolution he became embarrassed by furnishing means to the Government.  He then went to Ohio, and bought a small farm.  The maternal grandfather, John Grady, was also a farmer in Highland County.  William was reared at home until about his seventeenth year, and obtained a pioneer education, which his habits of general reading have since supplemented.  At the age of sixteen he began the wagon makers trade, and subsequently adopted carpentering, until he came to Missouri.  In 1835 he left Ohio for Indiana, and, after three years came to Scotland county, Missouri, and located in the Indiana wilds, on October 5, 1838.  He then entered 160 acres of land, where he now lives, and also pre-empted 160 acres.  He added to these afterward until he owned over 1,400 acres, which he gave to his children, excepting 205 acres, which he still retains.  Mr. Troth has been married four times.  His first wife, Eliza Ruse, died in 1848, leaving four children: Francis M., Rebecca J., Albert and Caroline*.  His second wife was Annie Billups, who died about 1862, leaving the following children: Oscar E., William A., Lafayette B., (deceased) and John H.  Mrs. Sarah C. (Sharp) Fisher became his third wife, with whom he lived for six years.  On September 8, 1885, he was married to his present wife, Mrs. Mattie Cotton.  She is a native of Clark county, Missouri, and by her first marriage her children are John and George Cotton.

William Troth d. September 14, 1892 ae 78 - burial was in the Billups cemetery, Scotland co., Missouri.  He was a member of the 1841 company of state militia; Scotland County's first military organization. - Lafayette B. Troth, was a farmer or land owner in Union Twp. Scotland co., in 1898.

*John Troth Family in Illinois

John Troth and his family came to Illinois in 1842.  He was born in Ohio and that's where he met his wife, Phoebe Bevans.  The Bevans family had come to Ohio from Pennsylvania.  John and Phoebe bought 40 acres of land just West of Southport, Illinois.  The tract contained some 10 acres of virgin timber along the road and he built his home on the hill South of the timber with the trees between the house and the road.  John would not allow the cutting of his trees and, when firewood was needed, the boys had to walk down the hill and across the road to fetch what was needed.

In addition to farming, John was a carpenter by trade, specializing in wagon making and he had his shop in the back of the house.  That's why the kitchen door is so wide; to permit the completed wagons to be taken out.

The family moved from Delaware to Franklin County, Ohio in 1838, residing there until 1841, when they emigrated to Peoria county, Illinois, where the father purchased a small farm.  In that county the children received their education and grew to manhood & womanhood. - Our subject was the first of the family to come to Iowa, he settled in Louisa county in 1852, entering eighty acres of wild prairie land upon which not a stick of timber could be seen, with exception of the little log cabin, sixteen feet square.  On the 13th of April, 1853, Mr. Stafford took up his residence on his claim, and began building fences and breaking the wild land with four to six yoke of oxen.  He has never had one cent given him since 1853, and his success in life has certainly been most praiseworthy.  In 1856 the loved ones whom he left in Peoria County, Illinois, came to his new home, and in Louisa County his father purchased a farm of eighty acres, upon which he resided until his death, which occurred in February, 1865, his wife surviving him many years, her death occurring in February, 1881.  They were both active members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and were among the highly honored citizens of the county.  On the 29th of August, 1850, in Peoria county, Illinois the marriage of John Stafford and Miss Delia Bevans was celebrated.  Delia Bevans was born in Highland co., Ohio, July 19, 1832, a daughter of John and Margaret (Frost) Bevans, who were natives of Pennsylvania, though both are now deceased, the mother having died about the year 1848, the father being called to his final rest in 1865.  They were members of the ME church, in which organization Mr. Bevans was a prominent worker...

Mrs. John Stafford died at her home west of Morning Sun, Thursday, November 1st., after an illness over several months.  The funeral services were held from her late home Saturday, a large number of old friends and neighbors were present to take part in the last sad rites of a friend.  The interment was in the old cemetery north of Morning Sun. - Mrs. Stafford¹s maiden name was Bevans.  She was born in Highand county, Ohio, July 10, 1832.  When about six years of age she removed with her parents to Peoria co., Illinois.  Here on August 29, 1850, she was married to John Stafford.  They came to Iowa in 1853, and in the spring of 1853 they settled on the homestead west of town which farm was their home all these years until death now parts them. - The bereaved husband, one daughter, Mrs. Marietta Long, and one son J. C. Stafford, survive the deceased.  Also one sister, Mrs. John Mellinger of that city--last of a family of twelve...

b. September 15, 1857, Knox co., Illinois.  m. November 11, 1873, in Peoria co., Illinois, Josiah Fink Wilson, son of Hiram Corneluis and Julia Ann (Fink) Wilson.  Soon they joined many other families that were migrating to Nebraska.  Their first stop was near Aurora, Hamilton co., where they appear in the federal census of 1880.  Later they moved on to take up a 160 acre farmstead at Keya Paha co., Nebraska, near the community which later become known as Mills.  Here Josiah and Mary Ann¹s two other children were born, in their house that Josiah built in the lee of a gentle slope in such a manner that a tiny creek ran through the house, keeping the air cool and fresh in summer but diverted outside when winter came.

Mary Ann became ill with a lung disease and (c1891) Josiah took her back to her people in Illinois, living this time at Galesburg, in Knox co. where she d. July 20, 1893.  Mary Ann (Bevans) Wilson is buried as Mrs. J. F. Wilson in Elmwood cemetery, Elmwood, Illinois, along with her mother inscribed as Nancy Bevans.  Nancy is of record as the purchaser of the gravesite.  Josiah returned to Keya Paha co., Nebraska as a single man, borrowed money against the land, but could not repay it, and was last shown in the county records during early 1894.  In later life he remarried in Missouri, farmed in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas, then moved back to southeastern Nebraska where on April 7, 1934, he died of pneumonia at Shubert, Richardson co., at the age of 84.  -  by Starline Mitchell

According to some info I just received from cousins, also doing research on the Graham's, info not proven, Albert Dart Graham born to Rebecca Graham may have been the issue of her father Robert Graham, since there is no proof of marriage of (Dart).

From info I received from other descendant, there is William Graham died 27 Sept 1844, listed as Alberts father.

This info I extracted from Prairie Roots Genealogy Periodical, Peoria County Probate Ledgers Oct 24, 1844.Vol XI no. 1 Fall 1983 page 33.

William Graham died on or about the 27th day of Sept 1844:

Dated 24 Sept 1844, Witness Joel Blakesley, Robert Prosser, Bond $150.00 by John Bevans, Robert Prosser. **Note that Bevins/Bevans spelling. This leads me to believe this is also one of Robert & Elizabeth Bevans Graham's children.

Taken from Highland Cuonty Ohio Wills, Administration, Guardianship & Adoptions .

May 27 1843 Robert Graham appointed Guardian of Dart Graham aged 9 years, son and heir of Rebecca Graham. Surety Benjamin Chaney.

1850 Census Liberty twp. Highland Co. Ohio Albert Dart Graham age 16 born in Ohio was living in Robert Graham Home.

Maybe when Rebecca married George Wedmire, she had to relinquish Albert to her Father, or the word heir would make one feel she had died. A mystery.

I have descendants of Albert Dart Graham, about 500 people. Are you interested in these, if so, can you do a gedcom to your genealogy program? I would send it by attachment e-mail.

While Mary GEORGE was expecting birth of one of their children, Mary's younger sister came to help her with the other children, chores, birth etc. It was during this time that Abel and the younger sister, Lucinda Murphy; became romantically involved. A son was born out of wedlock in 1838 and was named Ferdinand Murphy - his last name was later changed to GARNER. It is not known where the surname name Garner came from. Mary and Lucinda's parents Samuel & Ann (Bevans) MURPHY raised Ferdinand and brought him as a baby to be raised in Fulton Co., Illinois;. He stayed with his grandparents until he was old enough to do for himself. His mother, Lucinda MURPHY, married Isaac ANSEN and remained in Xenia, Greene Co., Ohio.

"My great grandfather, Ferdinand Garner, died the year before I was born, so I never knew him, however since I have been into family history and from verbal history I have come to know, respect and love him. Ferd¹s wife Susan told me a lot about him as did my grandmother Ada. My father¹s sister raised me and she felt that her grandpa Ferdinand was the most wonderful and loving person she ever knew and she lived to be 93. My Dad died very young, so the information about Ferd came from his daughter Ada and my Aunt Jessie. They all felt so bad about Ferdinand¹s relationship with Able but they were open-minded enough to understand and to talk about it, but none the less hurt."      Fern Taylor

Lester, was born in Cincinnati, [Highland co.] Ohio, February 3, 1830.  She only fell short of the historic limit of four score years by a few weeks.  She was married to William R. [Charles] H. Lester, first in [Champaign Co.] Illinois, then in Deuel county, S. He was engaged in merchandise during the 1860's.  He built a woolen factory at this place and was also engaged in the milling business at Chasetown for a number of years, where he met with a loss by fire.

His early days were spent in teaching school, mostly in this county.  He was a contractor and commenced his labors at the age of 17, making this business a success.

He was a devoted member of the Disciples Church, which he joined at an early age and of which he was a leading member.  The last song he chose was,  "Let me die like Old Simeon with Jesus in my arms."

He was a Republican and ever true to the party of this choice.

He was chosen Postmaster of this place during Grant's administration, which office he held until his death, except for the four years of Cleveland's administration.  (1869-1885,1889-1893).

He was an enthusiastic and devoted Mason, a charter member of the Marathon Lodge #203.  He was also a member of Chapter and Council, Georgetown, Ohio.
