Three Bevan Brothers Came to America from Wales,
John, Robert & Silas.
This chart follows the descendants of John Bevans who seems
to have migrated from Maryland to Fayette co., Pennsylvania in a early day.
Many of his descendants migrated to Peoria co., Illinois and settled near the
village of Elmwood hence this projects title: "The Elmwood connection.
Although John's wife Sarah's maiden name has not survived we are assuming her
name may be one of the names used time and again in the linage which are, Asher,
Parker & Brown. Perhaps something will turn up in future research that may
fill in this gap.

I have done a lot of research and
only found that John Brown Bevans, Robert Bevans and Silas Bevans all came over
from Wales around 1760-1780. There are documents that show John Robert and
Silas Were named Bevan, sons of Evan Bevan from Wales. I am also descended from
John to John Jr. to Henry SF to Cyrenius Dewey to John Oney to James Owen (all
Bevans). At one time I spoke with a Capt David A Bevans with the Royal Air
Force out of the UK. He said the town he came from in South Wales knows the
same story of the three Bevan brothers.
John Bevans trapped furs in
Pennsylvania, married and settled in Fayette Co., Pa, c1775, and in 1816,
bought land in Highland co., Ohio, where he migrated with his family.

When John Bevans arrived in the area he erected a large
two-story log cabin. The family were staunch Methodists and invited the
congregation to meet in the their homes. The home, located near the log Baptist
Church, was used from 1825 to 1830. By that time, "Daddy" Dunnıs big,
roomy barn, near the Bevanıs home was completed. The Methodist moved their
congregation into Dunnıs barn which they shared with the animals. - Henry
Richardson, son of the Rev. War vet., John Richardson settled near the Baptist
log church. In 1834, he donated an acre of land to the Methodist. They erected
a log building on the land and conducted their services in it. James Frost
donated another acre of land on the NE side of the church to be used as a
cemetery. This land forms the nucleus of the Dunnıs chapel cemetery.
Thomas Reno, m. Sarah Bevans on Christmas day, 1826 and on
May 3, 1827, Thomas died; Sarah (Bevans) Reno became the wife of James
Carlisle. When the Asiatic cholera became so prevalent in Highland co., both
James and his wife fell victims to the scourge, he died July 13, 1833 and she
the following year.

2. William Bevans
b. ca. 1784, [Fayette co.?], Pennsylvania. m. 1st., May 6,
1811, Licking co., Ohio, Sarah Headley. Settled in Knox co., Ohio in 1811,
where he was very active in civic affairs from 1814-1852. In 1814/5 William
& Sarah sold lots they owned and both signed deeds. In 1839 when William
purchased a lot there was no mention of a wife. Two children born in the 1830ıs
also lead us to believe that his first wife had died and he had remarried. This
marriage was in Franklin co., Ohio, Nov. 10, 1831, to Polly Howard. William m.
3rd., May 5, 1842, in Knox co., Drucilla Yoakum, b. 18 Dec. 1818, Shawnee twp.,
Allen co., Ohio. She was the
daughter of Solomon Yoakum and Ruth Carter.
William and
Drucilla had six children, one was born after Williamıs death which occurred
December 5, 1856, Mt. Vernon, Knox co., Ohio, and followed by a Masonic burial.
Burial places of wives not preserved. Since he died without a will, a suit was
brought to settle the estate on April 30, 1857 and from this we learn, William
& Amanda Ogg, Jackson & Mahala Wade and William & Jerusha Yoakum
were residing in Henry co., Iowa. George & Jane Swaggard (possibly Mtildaıs
husband had died, she remarried and her middle name was Jane??) and Cortes
& Emma Raynels [Reynolds] lived in Sauk co., Wisconsin.
Drucilla was still in Knox co., May 28, 1859 when she sold a
lot. By July 5, 1860 (fed. census) she was living in Shawnee Twp., Allen co.,
Ohio, and son William was 4 years old. Her birth occurred Dec. 18, 1818, and
she d. Oct. 6, 1892, Turtle creek Twp., Shelby co., Ohio; burial was in the
Shawnee cemetery, Allen co., Ohio, Sec. 1, Lot 023; stone reads:

John was a prominent worker for the Methodist Episcopal Church, he d. in 1865; assume, while they still lived in Iowa. Later Nancy returned to Elmwood, Illinois, by 1870, where she lived with her children. Nancy Bevans d., December 24, 1891, aged 73 years. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery, Elmwood., Peoria co., Illinois. "BEVANS", in bold lettering appears at the base of the stone. Nancy is of record as the purchaser of the gravesite.

Robert, Richard, and John, Graham,
came from County Down, Ireland. Richard & Robert in 1801( Taken from
Highland Ohio Records) This day came into court Robert Graham a foreighner who
filed his declaration of his intention to become a citizen... and proved by the
oath of Richard Graham that he landed in Newcastle in the State of Deleware(spelling

Sarah Adams, b. in the colony of New Jersey, Burlington co., 1764. Mary d. in
